Ignacio Iturrioz (Montevideo, 1978) is an uruguayan photographer, member of the German artist collective Schmelzofen e.V.
He started studying photography at the workshop of Borgunder. Later he continued his training at the National School of Fine Arts and at the School of Communication Sciences of the University of the Republic.
Being interested in the life in rural areas, he started traveling to the provinces in 2008. Within this context, he made his book Life is too short, for which he was given the National Author’s Book Award from Centro de Fotografía de Montevideo CdF, in 2009.
His project Isla won a work scholarship from International Photography Festival San José Foto SJF, in 2014. In this same year he was a resident artist at Montevideo Museum of Contemporary Art MACMO.
He was invited to exhibit his project Isla in the first edition of the Montevideo Uruguay Festival de Fotografía MUFF, in 2017.
In 2018 Iturrioz won the Uruguayan Photography Award organized by Ministry of Education and Culture MEC, and by CdF, for the work Purgatorio.
In 2019 he was invited to participate at the 5th Fórum Latino-Americano de Fotografía in São Paulo, Brazil.
His work was part of the Primal Sight collection (USA), in 2020.
He currently lives and works in the Swabian Jura, Germany.

Inicia sus estudios de fotografía en el taller Borgunder. Mas tarde, continua su formación en la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes y en la Facultad de Ciencias de la Comunicación de la Universidad de la República.
Interesado en la realidad del medio rural del Uruguay, en 2008 comienza una serie de viajes hacia el interior del país. En este marco, realiza su trabajo Life is too short, que recibirá el Premio de Libro de Autor Nacional del Centro de Fotografía de Montevideo Cdf, en 2009.
En el año 2014 con el proyecto Isla obtiene la beca de trabajo del Festival Internacional de Fotografía San Jose Foto SJF. En este mismo año participa como huésped documentalista en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Montevideo MACMO.
En 2017 recibe la invitación para exhibir su proyecto Isla en la primera edición del Montevideo Uruguay Festival de Fotografía MUFF.
En el año 2018 con el trabajo Purgatorio obtiene el Premio Nacional de la Fotografía Uruguaya, promovido por el Ministerio de Educación y Cultura MEC, y por el CdF.
En el 2019 es invitado a participar en el V Fórum Latino-Americano de Fotografía de San Pablo, Brasil.
En 2020 su trabajo forma parte de la colección Primal Sight, EEUU.
Actualmente vive y trabaja en los montes de Suabia, Alemania.
